Enjoy the outdoors this summer by visiting one (or all) of our favorite Westchester county parks! Whether you’re looking for the perfect park to take a simple stroll through, host a picnic or hike, these Westchester county parks make for fantastic day trip destinations.
Bear Mountain State Park
One of the most popular Westchester county parks is Bear Mountain State Park, located on the west side of the Hudson River in Rockland County, NY. Bear Mountain State Park features a large play field, shaded picnic areas, a lake with fishing access, a swimming pool, Trailside Museums and Zoo, as well as trails for hiking and biking. This is a dog-friendly park, permitted that you keep your dog on a leash.
Blue Mountain Reservation
Located in Peeksville, New York, Blue Mountain Reservation is a must-visit spot for the avid hiker. In addition to two tall peaks which make for challenging hikes, Blue Mountain Reservation also features hiking and biking trails, and is the only public recreation area in the county which offers a shooting sports complex. Though dogs are allowed in the park, they must be leashed.
Bronx River Parkway Reservation
The Bronx River Parkway Reservation is Westchester county’s oldest park. The reservation was created in addition to the Bronx River Parkway in 1925 and features ponds, wooden footbridges and hundreds of native trees and shrubs. This is an excellent spot for those interested in nature study!
